Week eight of high school football season is in the books. So, here is VBR’s weekly look at how Penn State football commits performed over the weekend.

Throughout the 2017 football season I will take a look at how Penn State football commits perform in their high school football games each week. With high school football now in full swing across the country, there is plenty to talk about after this past weekend.

Yet again, this week’s top performer was running back Ricky Slade.

The now 6-2 Hylton Bulldogs earned a 57-3 victory over Potomac on Friday night. Slade had 115 yards of total offense, he rushed for a touchdown, and he caught a touchdown pass. He also returned the game’s opening kick off 85-yards for a touchdown. This gives Slade three kick return touchdowns this season.

Also in the state of Virginia, offensive tackle Nana Asiedu and North Stafford defeated Mountain View 41-9. With the win, the Wolverines improved to 6-1 on the season. In Maryland, the McDonogh Eagles and defensive tackle PJ Mustipher improved to 5-2 on the season with a 35-6 victory over Loyola Blakefield. Mustipher finished the game with a sack and two tackles for a loss.

Meanwhile, wide receiver Daniel George and the Oxon Hill Clippers were crushed by Wise 58-14. With the loss, the Clippers are now 4-3 on the season. Meanwhile, in Connecticut, quarterback Will Levis and the Xavier Falcons had a bye week.

Back in Pennsylvania, linebacker commit Charlie Katshir and the Cumberland Valley Eagles improved to 6-1 on the season by defeating Carlisle 37-7. Katshir rushed for three touchdowns in the Eagle victory. However, at the end of the game he was on the sidelines with his shoulder in a sling.

Fellow linebacker commit Jesse Luketa and the Mercyhurst Prep Lakers improved to 8-0 on the season with a 34-7 victory over Harbor Creek. With Brent Pry and Joe Moorhead in attendance, Luketa had over 100 yards receiving for the Lakers. Also up in District 10, Juice Scruggs and the Cathedral Prep Ramblers crushed West Toronto Prep from Canada by a score of 50-7. The Ramblers are now 8-0 this season.

After a 35-26 victory over William Tennent, the Pennridge Rams are now 6-2 this season. In the victory, Nick Tarburton rushed for 60 yards and recorded eight tackles. Zack Kuntz and the Camp Hill Lions fell to 3-4 on the season after being blasted by Middletown by a score of 49-0. However, Kuntz still reeled in five catches for 116 yards.

The Imhotep Charter Panthers improved to 7-1 on the season with a 43-7 victory over Frankfort. Safety commit Isheem Young carried the ball five times for just 18 yards, but he did rush for a pair of touchdowns. He also had a sack in the game.

With James Franklin and Sean Spencer in attendance, the Harrisburg Cougars improved to 7-0 on the season with a 48-10 victory over Central Dauphin. Shaquon Anderson-Butts had four receptions for 65 yards, and he also forced a fumble. As you can see below, he also was laying the lumber as a defensive back on Saturday afternoon.

Class of 2019 commit Keaton Ellis remains out of action with an injury.

In New Jersey, South Brunswick and five-star wide receiver Justin Shorter improved to 4-1 on the season with a 42-12 victory over East Brunswick. Shorter had four receptions for 39 yards and a touchdown, he also recorded a pass breakup on defense.

In the Midwest, kicker Jake Pinegar (IA) and defensive tackle Aeneas Hawkins (OH) both remain out of action due to injury. In Illinois, the Metea Valley Mustangs and offensive tackle Bryce Effner lost to Glenbard North by a score of 42-0. The Mustangs are now 0-8 and have been outscored 336-84, and they have not scored since September 22.

For offensive tackle AJ Reed and the Muskegon Big Red their season has been a complete 180 from that of Effner and the Mustangs. After a 35-24 victory over Mona Shores on Friday night the Big Red are now 8-0 this season and have outscored their opponents 435-45 while having recorded five shutouts.

Deep in the heart of Texas safety commit Isaiah Humphries and the Sachse Mustangs improved to 7-0 on the season with a 74-9 shellacking of Garland High. Humphries had two tackles, a sack, and a tackle for a loss. Trent Gordon and the Manvel Mavericks improved to 5-0 on the season with a 56-27 victory over the Fort Bend Marshall Buffaloes. Gordon, however, did not play in the game.

Defensive tackle Judge Culpepper and the Plant (FL) Panthers defeated Wharton High School 43-0. Culpepper had seven tackles and two sacks to help the Panthers improve to 6-0 on the season. In Tampa Bay, cornerback Jordan Miner and Wiregrass Ranch improved to 6-1 on the season by defeating Freedom High School 39-8. Miner had 52 all-purpose yards, three tackles, and three pass breakups.
