Penn State Football: First three weeks after bye will make the season
Sitting at 6-0, Penn State football faces a difficult road in the first three weeks following its bye week.
After taking a week to rest, Penn State faces a difficult task in the upcoming weeks. If the Nittany Lions hope to stay undefeated they are going to have to get through a gauntlet of difficult Big Ten games. A spot in the College Football Playoff — something the Nittany Lions are in the running for — won’t be easy, especially with three ranked opponents coming up.
Penn State’s season could be determined by the outcomes of the next three games.
Coming off a surprisingly easy road matchup with Northwestern, the Nittany Lions start their though stretch with a home game against Michigan. Penn State will be looking to avenge last year’s 49-10 thumping in Ann Arbor. This year’s edition is under the lights at Beaver Stadium and will be shown to a national audience in primetime.
Over 107,000 white-clad Nittany Lion fans will certainly want to make themselves known when the Wolverines come to town.
Michigan was ranked in the top 10 before falling at home to Michigan State. Despite having some obvious deficiencies on offense the Wolverines boast a very tough defense. The potent Penn State offense could find scoring to be difficult.
Following Michigan, Penn State will head on the road to face likely it’s most difficult task of the season. Columbus hasn’t been kind to the Nittany Lions in recent years, and the Buckeyes and their fans will be hungry for revenge.
Ohio State is widely regarded as one of the top teams in the nation and certainly within the Big Ten. The game between the Nittany Lions and Buckeyes will likely carry championship implications.
An easy week will be needed after tough games with the Wolverines and Buckeyes. Unfortunately, a road trip to Michigan State immediately follows the game at Ohio State and will be no easy task.
Michigan State entered this season without the usual high expectations and has performed very well. An upset win at Michigan put them on the national map and into the top 25 rankings. Like Ohio State, Michigan State will be looking for revenge against the Nittany Lions.

Of course, after the next three contests there are still three on the schedule. However, the next three, particularly the road games, will go a long way in determining Penn State’s fate for the rest of the season.
