Week seven of high school football season is in the books. So, here is VBR’s weekly look at how Penn State football commits performed over the weekend.

Throughout the 2017 football season I will take a look at how Penn State football commits perform in their high school football games each week. With high school football now in full swing across the country, there is plenty to talk about after this past weekend.

We will start with this week’s top performer – running back Ricky Slade.

The sensational senior season of Ricky Slade continued on Friday night. In the Hylton Bulldogs’ 62-35 victory over Charles J. Colgan High School, Slade had a record-breaking night. He rushed for 353 yards and scored eight, yes eight, total touchdowns. Slade rushed for five scores, caught a touchdown pass, and returned a pair of kickoffs 90-plus yards for a score.

By the end of the night Slade had over 500 all-purpose yards and eight total touchdowns. Friday night was yet another example why Slade is the top high school running back in the country and why he will make an impact in Happy Valley as a true freshman next fall.

Staying in Virginia, offensive tackle Nana Asiedu and the North Stafford Wolverines had a bye week. In Maryland, wide receiver Daniel George had 18 receiving yards and a pick-six in Oxon Hill’s 17-14 loss against Potomac.

Back home in Pennsylvania, Zack Kuntz had a huge game as the Camp Hill Lions improved to 3-3 on the season with a 40-7 victory over Boiling Springs. Kuntz caught three touchdown passes, as well as recording a pick-six for the Lion defense. He finished the game with 110 receiving yards.

More from Victory Bell Rings

Offensive lineman Juice Scruggs and Erie Cathedral Prep improved to 7-0 on the season with a 33-23 victory over De Lasalle Collegiate from Ohio. Jesse Luketa and the Mercyhurst Prep Lakers defeated Fairview 48-7 to improve to 7-0 on the season. Luketa led a Laker defense that held Fairview to just 87 yards of total offense.

Harrisburg High School improved to 6-0 on the season with an 82-3 decimation of Chambersburg. Shaquon Anderson-Butts had three receptions for 62 yards and a pair of touchdowns. For the now 5-2 Pennridge Rams, linebacker Nick Tarburton had eight tackles, five of which were for a loss, and three sacks.

The now 5-1 Cumberland Valley Eagles defeated the now 6-1 State College Little Lions by a score of 36-21 on Friday night. Charlie Katshir rushed for a touchdown for the Eagles, recorded five tackles, and played a big role in their defense limiting a State High offense that had been averaging 57.6 points per game this season. Meanwhile, for State High, class of 2019 commit Keaton Ellis sat out with an injury.

To the east in New Jersey, five-star wide receiver Justin Shorter had 92 yards of total offense, he caught a touchdown, and he recorded an interception in a 21-6 South Brunswick victory. Defensive end Dorian Hardy and Paramus Catholic were shellacked 43-7 by Pope John XXIII. Hardy, however, did not play in this game.

Down in Texas, Trent Gordon and the Manvel Mavericks improved to 4-0 on the season with a 35-7 victory over Ball High School. Gordon finished the game with four tackles and a pass breakup. Isaiah Humphries and the Sachse Mustangs defeated Lakeview Centennial 49-19 to improve to 5-0 on the season. Humphries had a big game record nine tackles, two tackles for a loss, and an interception.

In the state of Florida, defensive tackle Judge Culpepper and the Plant Panthers defeated Wharton High School 43-0 to improve to 5-0 on the season. Culpepper finished the game with seven tackles and two sacks.

Also in Florida, cornerback Jordan Miner and the Wiregrass Ranch Bull fell to 6-2 on the season with a 23-13 loss to Gaither. While Miner finished the game with three tackles, he also lost a fumble and had just one reception.

In the Midwest, Metea Valley (IL) and offense tackles Bryce Effner lost 44-0 to fall to 0-7 on the season. Fellow offensive tackle AJ Reed and the Muskegon Big Red (MI) continue to roll as they improved to 7-0 on the season with a 54-0 victory over Kenowa Hills. The Big Red have outscored their opponents 330-21 this season. Meanwhile, in Iowa, kicker Jake Pinegar remains out of action with a knee issue. Cincinnati defensive tackle Aeneas Hawkins also remains out with an injury.

Finally, checking in with Penn State’s New England commits, quarterback Will Levis threw a touchdown in a 35-7 loss for the Xavier Falcons (CT) against Fairfield Prep. Tight end Pat Freiermuth had 103 receiving yards and two touchdowns in a 51-21 victory for the Brooks School (MA) over St. George (RI).
