Last week’s Michigan State victory over a Western Michigan that nearly defeated USC can only be described as “workmanlike”. The Spartans did everything they needed to to prevent an upset, but they weren’t flashy – and they didn’t need to be.
Sophomore quarterback Brian Lewerke went 13-for-21 for 161 yards through the air and one touchdown. Lewerke did add two runs for 81 yards including a 61-yard scamper for a touchdown. Junior LJ Scott added 86 rushing yards on 18 carries.
This week the Spartans are off. Next week they face a key showdown in East Lansing as they host Notre Dame. The jury remains very much out on the Spartans and where coach Dantonio has them moving. A win over the Fighting Irish will certainly have Michigan State headed in the right direction.
