Penn State Football: Position Grades versus Pittsburgh
Secondary
Can it get any better than the first two weeks for the secondary? After holding Akron to less than 100 yards passing, the secondary comes back with another stellar performance. Max Browne handed out two easy interceptions to Grant Haley and Troy Apke.
Outside of the forced turnovers, they held big play receivers Quadree Henderson and Jester Weah in check. Henderson caught just two passes for five yards and Weah caught six passes for 65 yards, but he never came up with a backbreaking play.
Browne probably felt like he saw 20 blue Penn State football jerseys on the backend. Christian Campbell recorded two of the Nittany Lions’ seven pass deflections on the night. Haley probably deserved the game ball on defense. He recorded a nice first half sack to go along with an interception and pass break-up. On the sack, he sliced cleanly into the backfield providing a lot of pressure.
Safeties Marcus Allen and Nick Scott made huge game-saving plays. Allen recorded a game-high 12 tackles and a key pass break-up jarring the ball loose of the receiver. Scott lifted Ollison off his feet like a WWE wrestler and threw him to the ground in fell swoop.
