After camping for the Penn State football coaching staff on Friday night, quarterback Will Levis earned an offer and has committed to the Nittany Lions.

Lasch Bash weekend keeps rolling for Penn State football, and the Nittany Lions have now received two commitments this weekend. One day after defensive tackle Judge Culpepper committed to Penn State, quarterback Will Levis has joined the fold as well.

Quarterback Will Levis is a Middletown, Connecticut, native. He has been shooting up recruiting boards this summer with strong camp performances. He chose the Nittany Lions over offers from Florida State, Iowa, and North Carolina, among others.

The 6-foot-4, 222-pound Levis camped for the Nittany Lion coaching staff at their Elite Camp IV last night. Levis had a fantastic showing at the camp and earned an offer that he jumped on immediately. He ran a 4.6 second 40-yard dash and showed great arm strength.

Levis is mobile in the pocket. He can make defenders miss when necessary and can get yards with his legs. He also has good pocket presence and awareness which is vital at the quarterback position.

In terms of throwing the ball, Will Levis has a quick release and good arm strength. He can really push the ball downfield and everyone saw last year how important that is in Joe Moorhead’s offense.

This spring, Levis was the most athletic quarterback in the country according to Nike SPARQ training numbers. He posted a 123.27 SPARQ score which was the highest of any quarterback in the country, and the 24th highest in the country regardless of position.

For a variety of reasons, He is probably a bit underrated by recruiting services. First off, he plays in the usually weak state of Connecticut. High School football in the New England states as a whole is not super strong which leads to players from these areas being underrated and undervalued.

Secondly, while he has been putting on a show for programs this summer, he did not attend any of the big Rivals or Opening camps. These camps often times help players get discovered and recognized by recruiting services, something that was not the case for Levis.

With the commitment of Levis, Penn State football’s 2018 recruiting class now has 16 commits. It remains as the third best class in the country according to 247 Sports. It would be a surprise if their class does not pick up at least one more commitment this weekend.
