Welcome back to the weekly Penn State football recruiting roundup here at Victory Bell Rings

The summer months are always busy ones in the world college football recruiting. That is certainly the case for Penn State football recruiting, and this summer has been as busy a summer as ever in Happy Valley.

In the past week, the Nittany Lions have picked up a new commitment, they made the top four of a defensive back recruit, and there could be some movement in quarterback recruiting on the horizon. Additionally, the Nittany Lion coaching staff is preparing for the most important recruiting weekend of the summer.

Jordan Miner commits to Penn State

Last Thursday, Penn State’s 2018 recruiting class picked up its 14th commitment. This commitment came from four-star cornerback Jordan Miner. With Miner jumping on board, the Nittany Lions currently own the 4th best recruiting class in the country according to 247 Sports.

Miner’s commitment gives Penn State a pair of cornerbacks in their 2018 recruiting class joining Texas native Trent Gordon. You can read more about Miner and his commitment to Penn State here.

Penn State makes the cut

On Saturday, three-star cornerback Ken Montgomery Jr. Tweeted out his top four schools. Additionally, he announced that he will be committing on July 27th.

Montgomery Jr.’s top four schools are Alabama, Ohio State, Penn State, and UCLA. He also plans to visit Happy Valley prior to announcing his commitment later this month.

While Montgomery Jr. is a fine player, right now, he is most likely not a take at Penn State. A big reason for this is Miner committing to the Nittany Lions last week. Odds are, barring a de-commitment, the only way Penn State would take another cornerback in this class is if it is top-100 cornerback Houston Griffith, who will take an official visit to Penn State in the fall.

To be honest, UCLA is probably the only one of his top four schools that Montgomery Jr. is currently a take at. It is due to this that I expect him to commit to the Bruins on July 27th.

Fast rising quarterback set to camp for Nittany Lions

On Friday night, Penn State will be hosting their Elite Camp IV. At this camp, one of the fastest rising quarterbacks on the East Coast will be camping for the Nittany Lions. With a good camp performance, an offer could be extended.

According to Sean Fitz of Lions 247, three-star quarterback Will Levis is set to camp for the Nittany Lions on Friday night. The six-foot-four, 222-pound Levis is a native of Middletown, Connecticut, and has been shooting up recruiting boards of late.

His camp performances have already earned him offers from Florida State, Iowa, and Ole Miss this summer. These go along with previously held offers from programs such as Cincinnati and Syracuse.

The Nittany Lions are still looking to fill the void left at quarterback in their 2018 recruiting class that was formed when Justin Fields de-committed last month. With a strong camp performance on Friday night, Will Levis will earn an offer. If he earns an offer, the Nittany Lions will almost assuredly become the team to beat for his services.

Massive recruiting weekend on tap

This weekend is the most important recruiting weekend of the summer for the Nittany Lions. In fact, it is one of the two or three most important ones of the entire calendar year. As this weekend is the yearly Lasch Bash BBQ.

The Nittany Lions will be hosting a slew of un-committed prospects in the 2018, 2019, and 2020 recruiting classes this weekend. Additionally, all of the 2018 commits should be on campus for the biggest recruiting weekend of the summer.

Later this week, I will have a more in-depth preview of the Lasch Bash and the visitor list.
