The Penn State Football program currently has one of the best recruiting classes in the country, and their WR haul for 2018 could be one of the best ever.

According to the composite rankings of 247 Sports, the Penn State Football program currently has the third best recruiting class in the country. This class includes plenty of offensive talents such as five-star quarterback Justin Fields, five-star running back Ricky Slade, top-50 tight end Zack Kuntz, and top-100 offensive tackle Nana Asiedu. This group, however, includes just one wide receiver.

This wide receiver is Justin Shorter. The New Jersey native is one of the best wide receivers in the country, checking in as the 16th best wide receiver, and 79th best player overall, in the country according to 247 Sports’ composite rankings. Furthermore, Shorter will play in the U.S. Army All-American Game on January 7.

There are very few wide receivers prospects in the country better than Justin Shorter. However, according to 247 Sports, one of them is Jahan Dotson. Dotson checks in the composite rankings as the 73rd best player in the country and 15th best wide receiver.

Originally from Nazareth, Pennsylvania, Dotson now plays his high school ball in New Jersey. However, for college, he could return to the Keystone State.

Jahan Dotson may announce his college decision as early as this month. Currently, the Nittany Lions are the team to beat for the electric playmaker. Pairing Jahan Dotson with Justin Shorter would give the Nittany Lions the best wide receivers duo out of any recruiting class in the country right now.

The Nittany Lions, however, are prepared to sign at least three wide receivers in their 2018 recruiting class. This leaves the door open for another elite talent at wide receiver. Enter, Daniel George.

The Oxen Hill, Maryland, native has visited Penn State multiple times this spring. This has led to the Nittany Lions becoming the heavy favorites to land George’s services.

Daniel George, a four-star recruit, checks in as the 189th best player in the country and 37th best wide receiver according to 247 Sports. He is a player that compares very favorably to former Nittany Lion, and now Tampa Bay Buccaneer, Chris Godwin.

Even if the Nittany Lions were to miss out on Dotson or George, they have extremely talented backup plans. Four-star legacy recruit Solomon Enis, who visited for the Blur-White Game, is one of them. Another is four-star Harrisburg wide receiver Shaquon Anderson-Butts, even though for a variety of reasons I think the odds of Anderson-Butts ending up at Penn State are very slim.

Regardless of how it shakes out, Penn State’s 2018 wide receiver haul in recruiting will be an extremely impressive one.

The 2018 Penn State football recruiting class will be one of the best in program history. This has the potential to include not just arguably the best wide receiver class in program history, but one of the best in the country period in recent years.

Winning is fun.
