As spring ball continues to unfold in Happy Valley, so does the busy spring visit period for Penn State football recruiting.

It continues to be a very busy time in the world of Penn State football recruiting. As spring ball continues to roll on, the visitors continue to roll into Happy Valley.

While the past week was not a busy one for Penn State recruiting in terms of visitors, the Nittany Lions do have an important weekend on tap. Additionally, the Nittany Lions gained a new commitment in the past week.

Welcome back to our weekly look at all things Penn State Football recruiting here at Victory Bell Rings, welcome back to the weekly recruiting roundup.

Penn State Earns A New Commitment

Last Wednesday, the Nittany Lions’ 2018 recruiting class earned its 12th commitment. This commitment came in the form of three-star cornerback Trent Gordon.

More from Victory Bell Rings

Trent Gordon is a native of Manvel, Texas, and is the first cornerback commit in Penn State’s 2018 recruiting class. Due to numbers, it is possible that Gordon will be the lone cornerback in this class. You can read more about Gordon and his commitment here.

With the commitment of Trent Gordon, Penn State currently has the second highest rated recruiting class according to the composite rankings of 247 Sports.

A Top Defensive Tackle To Set To Visit

Penn State’s 2018 recruiting class currently has one defensive line commit. That is in the form of five-star defensive end Micah Parsons. Additionally, defensive athlete Nick Tarburton could end up on the same defensive line.

However, Penn State has yet to earn their first true defensive tackle commit in this class. Well, this weekend the Nittany Lions will host arguably their top defensive tackle target for this recruiting cycle.

This player is Owings Mills, Maryland, native PJ Mustipher. This will be Mustipher’s first visit to Penn State since the Temple game last September. His recruitment is shaping up to be a battle between Maryland, Notre Dame, Ohio State, and Penn State.

Mustipher’s brother currently plays for Notre Dame, this puts the Fighting Irish in a good spot here. However, both Ohio State and Penn State have a great shot as well. This weekend, Penn State has a chance to make a big move for Mustipher.

The Nation’s Top 2019 Kicker Checks Out Campus

This past Friday, kicker Kolton McGhee visited Penn State. McGhee is the top kicker in the country for the 2019 recruiting class and has already visited Penn State multiple times.

Kolton McGhee attends Bishop Guilfoyle High School in Altoona. This makes him a player who lives right in Penn State’s backyard.

While his recruitment is still in its infancy, the Nittany Lions will be very tough to beat for McGhee.

Penn State Makes The Top Five For The Nation’s Top Linebacker

On Monday, linebacker Dallas Gant released his top five. And Penn State made the cut for the Toldeo, Ohio, native.

The other four schools in Gant’s top five are Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame, and Ohio State. According to 247 Sports, Gant is the top outside linebacker recruit in the country for the 2018 recruiting cycle.

As one would expect with an Ohio kid, the Buckeyes will be very tough to beat for Gant. Additionally, Notre Dame appears to be his other top school along with Ohio State.

Gant has visited Penn State multiple times in the past. If he returns to campus this spring, the Nittany Lions may be able to have a shot at landing a commitment from Gant on May 16.
