Can Penn State pull of a big upset at home Tuesday night?

The Penn Sate Nittany Lions were shocked at home Saturday against Rutgers. It was the first-ever Big Ten road win for the Scarlet Knights and had the crowd at the Bryce Jordan Center stunned. Penn State will need to rebound quickly from the loss, but that won’t be an easy task. Up next for the Nittany Lions is a home game against the No. 21 Maryland Terrapins.

Penn State has really struggled in the Big Ten this season, especially lately. The Nittany Lions enter Tuesday with a two-game losing streak and have lost five of their last six contests.

Poor shooting has continued to plague the Nittany Lions all season. As a team they are shooting a combined 41 percent from the field and rank 222nd in the nation with an average of just 72.1 points a game.

In the loss to Rutgers the Nittany Lions shot 40 percent from the floor and managed just 68 points.

The team had high expectations coming into the season with a very strong recruiting class. True freshmen Tony Carr, Lamar Stevens, and Mike Watkins all rank in the top five on the team in scoring. Watkins leads the team with 8.1 rebounds a game and Carr leads the way with four assists per game.

Penn State has played a ranked opponent five times this season and has just one win over then-No. 24 Minnesota.

Maryland was expected to digress a bit this year, but the Terrapins have played surprisingly well. They currently sit at 20-3, but are coming off a game in which they lost a lead late to Purdue.

The Terps are tough on defense, allowing just 66.3 points a game.

Guard Melo Trimble leads the way in scoring with 17.2 points a game. Freshman forward Justin Jackson is a force down low, averaging 11.3 points a game and 6.2 rebounds per game.
