Three-star linebacker Jesse Luketa has committed to Penn State

On Friday, the Penn State Nittany Lions got better twice. Five-star running back Ricky Slade committed to the Nittany Lions on Friday. Additionally, three-star linebacker Jesse Luketa jumped on board as well.

Luketa plays for Mercyhurts Prep High School in Erie. However, he is originally a native of Canada. Jesse Luketa was offered by the Nittany Lions last week and then attended the mini junior day this past Sunday. Needless to say, it did not take Luketa long to decide on the Nittany Lions.

Jesse Luketa chose the Nittany Lions over offers from LSU, Stanford, and West Virginia, among others.

The six-foot-three, 225-pound Luketa projects to be an outside linebacker at the collegiate level. Luketa was Penn State’s second linebacker commitment in as many days. This came after Charlie Katshir committed to Penn State on Thursday.

Jesse Luketa is a very athletic player. He is a player that grew leaps and bounds between his sophomore and junior seasons of high school. His junior film, which can be found below, is very impressive.

On top of being a good athlete, Luketa is also a hard hitter at linebacker. When he hits a ball carrier, they know it. And this helps to make Luketa very sure tackler. Jesse Luketa is a very instinctive player as well, and this is a very important trait for any linebacker to have. To be honest, I would argue it is the most important trait for a linebacker to possess.

Luketa also has great length. This helps him to navigate traffic and shed blockers. He also excels in coverage, which is a rarity for high school linebackers.

The Nittany Lions currently have all the recruiting momentum in the world. I would not be surprised to see the class of 2018 pick up another commitment at some point in the next 24-72 hours. Since I will be moving/setting up my new apartment tomorrow, I would fully expect it to happen then while I am busy.

With the commitments of Ricky Slade and Jesse Luketa Penn State’s 2018 recruiting class now has 10 commits. Furthermore, it remains the top ranked recruiting class in the country.

You can watch Luketa’s film here. Welcome to Happy Valley, Jesse!
