Penn State Basketball: Nittany Lions Drop Triple-Overtime Thriller in Indiana
Penn State couldn’t hold the lead late and lost in triple-overtime against Indiana.
The start of Wednesday’s game appeared to be identical to the last time Penn State took on Indiana. The Nittany Lions found themselves down early in the first period and trailing at halftime. However, just like the last time, they fought back and held a lead that. Penn State ultimately gave up the lead and lost 110-102 in triple-overtime.
Penn State started the game sluggish and went into halftime down 47-37. However, the second half was a different story.
The Nittany Lions again started slow, but went on a run about halfway through the period and eventually tied the game up. Things were back-and-forth the rest of the way, but Penn State had a two-point lead with just three seconds remaining.
Unfortunately, Lamar Stevens was whistled for a foul, sending De’Ron Davis to the line. He converted both free throws to tie the game. Penn State had one last chance in regulation, but Josh Reaves missed a layup at the end.

Penn State appeared to have the game won in the first overtime when Shep Garner made to free throws to put the Nittany Lions up two with less than 10 seconds remaining. However, Josh Newkirk made a layup at the buzzer to extend the game.
During the second overtime, Indiana was up by six with about a minute to go. Penn State again roared back and tied the game on free throws with four seconds left by Tony Carr.
The Nittany Lions never led during the third overtime and watched Indiana complete the epic win. It was another close loss for Penn State. The Nittany Lions have continued to struggle closing games this year.
Penn state had five players reach double-digit points. Lamar Stevens led the way with 26 points, while fellow freshman Tony Carr added 23. Mike Watkins led the Nittany Lions with 11 total rebounds.
Indiana had three players surpass the 25-point mark, with Thomas Bryant leading the way with 31 points and 11 rebounds.
The Nittany Lions will need to regroup and get ready to focus on their next game. They’ll head back home to take on Rutgers Saturday.
