LaVar Arrington

A very close second to Jack Ham is LaVar Arrington.

Arrington carried on the “Linebacker U” moniker to perfection.  As soon as he stepped on the field, he made his presence known to opposing teams.

He played three seasons for the Nittany Lions and was a two-time All-American selection.  In 1998, he became the first sophomore to be named the Big Ten’s Defensive Player of the Year.  That year he also made the play that epitomized his career, the “LaVar Leap”.

In 1999, Arrington made 72 tackles, 20 tackles for loss, nine sacks, one interception, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries (one returned for a TD), and two blocked kicks.  He took home the Bednark, Butkus, and Lambert Awards that season.

LaVar left Penn State early after his junior season and was drafted second overall in the 2000. He definitely left a legacy in Happy Valley.
