We continue our look at the greatest Penn State players of all time. Up next is a look at the top running backs in Penn State history.

This was one of the toughest of the positions to narrow down to just five, as there have been some real greats to line up in the Penn State backfield through the years. The list could be 10 or 15 players deep easily.

Always thought of as a defensive school that produces great linebackers, plenty of Nittany Lions have made names for themselves as running backs at both the collegiate and professional levels.

The names roll off the tongue of any Penn State historian. Warner, Mitchell, Harris, Johnson, Enis, Carter, Cappelletti, Dozier, and more recently, Royster and perhaps even Barkley. Clearly, there are many names that could show up on a Penn State All-Time list.

Alas, for our purposes, the list is set at five players, so let’s get to it.  As always feel free to leave comments.

Check out the following slides to see who we listed at the five best running backs in Penn State history.
