Penn State vs. Georgia Position Grades
By Shane Lunnen
Running Backs:
In the staff predictions, I had thought Saquon Barkley would run for 100 yards but Georgia made it tough sledding all day for the rushing attack.
Barkley didn’t have a lot of running room against a tough Georgia defense. He finished the day with 69 yards on 17 carries and no touchdowns. To his credit, when he did have a little running room he made the most of it. His biggest play of the day was when there was a small gap up the right side of the line and he burst through it for a gain of 29 yards.
Brandon Polk had three carries for 13 yards on the designed jet sweeps. Akeel Lynch only had one touch for four yards.
The lack of running game was a direct result of poor line play and the Bulldogs’ speed in the front seven. Penn State will hopefully see improvement next year with Barkley and incoming recruit Miles Sanders in the backfield.
