Special Teams:

Excuse me for sounding cliche here, but the Penn State special teams has been anything but special all year.  On Saturday their woes continued.

Even though the game was pretty much out of reach at that point, Koa Farmer fumbled a kickoff in the fourth quarter and it was recovered by the Spartans at the Penn State nine yard line.  He also mistimed a return earlier in the game, letting it sail over his head and go into the endzone.

The kicks weren’t that great either.  Joey Julius didn’t make the trip due to injury, so the staff had Chris Gulla kick short each time, which was pretty frustrating.  They were just giving Michigan State free yards.  Tyler Davis did hit his one extra point attempt and field goal, keeping his perfect streak alive.

Maybe a few weeks off will rejuvenate this unit, but I still think it’s at least a year away from being decent.
