Wide Receivers / Tight Ends:
Sure, the Maryland defense was not very good, but it was great to finally see the Penn State wide receivers get separation. The receivers played great against the Terps and came up with several tough catches that were key to the victory.
Chris Godwin continued to be Penn State’s best receiver this year. He caught just four passes but totaled 135 yards. He averaged 34 yards per catch and was a valuable downfield target for Hackenberg. He made several tough catches and made some great adjustments in order to come down with the ball. The day could have been even better for Godwin, as he had a chance at another touchdown in the fourth quarter, but was unable to come down with the ball.
DaeSean Hamilton, who’s seen a major reduction in his numbers, had a great game against the Terps. He finished with five catches for 96 yards and a touchdown that put the Nittany Lions up in the third quarter.
Geno Lewis, who hasn’t really been a factor at all this year, only had one catch in the game. However, it was a 27-yard touchdown reception that put the Nittany Lions up for good in the fourth quarter.
In what’s been a trend this season, the tight ends were not really utilized, though Kyle Carter made one catch for 17 yards. The tight ends didn’t do anything, but the fantastic play of the wide receivers made this grade high.
Penn State’s receivers played about as well as possible and were a huge reason for the win over Maryland.
