Running Backs:
For the second-straight week, Akeel Lynch and Saquon Barkley did not play due to injury so Nick Scott and Mark Allen replaced them in the Penn State backfield. Both backs had just average days stat wise, but it was enough to keep the Indiana defense honest and opened up the passing game.
Scott got the start and on the second play from scrimmage had a 35-yard gain. He finished the day with 8 carries for 58 yards and no scores, totaling a 7.1 yards per rush average. Allen fumbled late in the first quarter that could have proved costly if it wasn’t for the stout Penn State defense. Allen got an ear full from running backs coach Charles Huff on the sidelines. But the coaching staff gave him another shot and he finished the day with 8 carries for 47 yards, including a 28-yard scamper.
Fans are anxiously awaiting the return of Barkley who really adds a real spark to the offense. However Scott and Allen have done a serviceable job in his place.
