Running Backs:
With Akeel Lynch and Saquon Barkley sidelined with injuries, it was up to the other running backs to step up. Nick Scott got most of the carries, taking 12 hand-offs for 54 yards and a touchdown. Scott also took a screen pass 22 yards to covert a third and 16 into a first down.
Mark Allen took six carries for 19 yards and it was nice to see redshirt freshman Johnathan Thomas get into the running back mix as well. Thomas had seven carries for 32 yards.
To the running backs’ credit, they did the best they could on Saturday. But until Barkley comes back with his tackle shredding ability this offense won’t be nearly as good. It’s bad that the offense is totally different with one player, a true freshman to boot.
