Wide Receivers / Tight Ends:
The receivers were the beneficiaries of Hackenberg’s good game. Saeed Blacknall finally made his first receptions of the season, grabbing four catches for 101 yards. Two of those catches were on long throws from Hackenberg for 46 and 45 yards. Chris Godwin continued his good season with five catches for 78 yards and a touchdown. DaeSean Hamilton also contributed five catches for 40 yards, including a couple timely third down conversion catches.
For the tight ends, Kyle Carter caught three balls for 47 yards, including a very nice 35-yard scamper. Mike Gesicki caught 2 balls for 11 yards, but was also flagged a couple times. I’m not sure what has been up with him this season. It would be nice if the coaching staff utilized the tight ends more on passing plays. The 35-yard pass and catch to Carter reminded me of the days of the Bill O’Brien led offense.
Overall it was a solid day for the receivers. If this was the start of more downfield throws for Hackenberg, the receivers will start to have even bigger games.
