Wide Receivers/Tight Ends:
Chris Godwin led the receivers with five catches for 75 yards. He had a really nice catch in the fourth quarter where he dove for a ball and picked up 38 yards. DeSean Hamilton pulled in a touchdown grab on a 5-yard screen play.
The end around / jet sweep was in the playbook again with freshman Brandon Polk showing his speed. He had three carries for 45 yards and a touchdown. He appeared to flinch before the snap on his touchdown run, but the refs didn’t see it.
The tight ends were actually involved this week, although it was more about what they didn’t do. Mike Gesicki dropped two good passes from Hackenberg on the same drive and both could have gone for touchdowns. Gesicki and Kyle Carter combined for five catches for 27 yards and we need to see more from them.
It was a so-so performance overall, but the receivers still are not creating enough separation. Godwin is clearly the number one receiver on this team but there is no clear number two.
