Linebackers:
Again, I’m going positive to start.
Brandon Bell had a solid day with seven tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss, a sack and a forced fumble. He was all over the field in the first quarter. Although by the end of the game he was banged up and nursing an injury.
Speaking of injuries, Nyeem Wartman-White is now lost for the year with a leg injury. He was injured during the second quarter while playing on the punt team, which I have no idea why your starting middle linebacker is playing special teams. That’s on the coaches. Regardless, his absence had a huge impact and his replacement Gary Wooten was not nearly as effective.
After the Wartman-White injury, the Owls went 93 yards on 12 plays for a touchdown. You could sense at that point the tide had turned. It also doesn’t help that Jake Cooper and Manny Bowen were forced to burn their redshirts because of injuries.
I’ll give the linebackers the same pass as the defensive line. With the injuries, there will need to be some changes next week.
