Penn State Football: Nittany Lions to Adopt Original School Colors of Black and Pink for 2015 Season

An unconfirmed report from State College suggests that the Nittany Lions will be donning the original school colors of pink and black for the 2015 football season.

The Penn State basketball team wears black and pink uniforms for one game a year, so it only makes sense that the football team adopt the practice as well. After the Nittany Lions on the court wore the alternate jerseys this year against Virginia Tech, safety Jordan Lucas took to Twitter to voice his desire to rock the old school colors.

Unofficial word out of Happy Valley is that the football team will be going a step further than the basketball team by wearing the pink and black for every game in 2015. There will be a vote upcoming by a specially formed Uniform Committee to decide whether or not to make an official, permanent change of the school colors. Several well-known fashion icons are said to be taking spots on the committee.

Changing uniforms is nothing new in today’s era of college football. The University of Oregon set the trend in making flashy uniforms a staple of the game. Many schools across the nation, including some in the Big Ten, have worn alternate uniforms. While most have been pretty cool, some have failed epically (yes, Maryland, your state flag uniforms are hideous).

The move makes sense for Penn State, as the student section already forms a black and pink “S Zone” for homecoming each year.

Details on what the uniforms will actually look like haven’t yet been made public, but we can hope for something along the lines of pink shoes, pink socks, pink pants, black jersey, and a pink helmet with a black stripe.

An anonymous team source was quoted as saying, “It’s all about intimidation. What’s more intimidating than a fat lineman charging at you in pink pants?”

There is no word yet if the signage inside of Beaver Stadium will be changed this year to reflect the new color scheme. There is a rumor though that the Nittany Lion will be dressed in pink from head to toe, accented with a black and pink scarf.

While the change will take some getting used to, Penn State fans will ultimately be yelling, “Go Black and Pink!” Perhaps the biggest change will be realizing that all of the blue and white gear would now be considered vintage.

Oh, and by the way, we here at VBR wish you an enjoyable April Fools Day!
