Special Teams

Sam Ficken was his usual solid self, converting both field goals and an extra point, while also notching two touchbacks. He also executed a beautiful onside kick that was ultimately called back by the infamous Dave Witvoet. However, the punting game was awful, as Chris Gulla averaged just 33.4 yards per punt and failed to flip the field on many occasions. It just wasn’t the effort needed from Gulla on Saturday night. The return game didn’t do anything special. Jesse Della Valle’s only solid return was called back for a penalty. Not an entirely impressive effort on special teams for the Lions.
