Coach O’Brien Comments on a Possible Penn State Uniform Tweak

I asked Bill O’Brien about a potential addition to the uniforms (helmets) on Tuesday night at the Cleveland stop of the Coaches Caravan. The reason I asked, is because I am actually FOR it. I think that bringing back the numbers to the side of the helmets for a game would be almost…subtraction by addition.

Yeah, I just said that.

I think that going retro by throwing the numbers on the helmets somehow makes the uniforms more plain. Imagine playing on the road and Illinois breaks out some hideous, wanna-be futuristic, orange camouflage costume/uniform and Penn State answers by breaking out the 1979 version of Nittany Lions uniforms. Can’t you see it? Can’t you!

Does O’Brien agree with little old me? No. Well, he…no.

“I’m probably not gonna do that but I don’t think that’s a terrible idea. A number of people have asked me about that- I’m probably not gonna do that. I understand why that was and the history behind that and I think it’s pretty neat, but…pry won’t do that.”

Sounds like he probably won’t throw the numbers on the helmets. So you’re saying there’s a chance!?!

A good portion of the Penn State Coaches Caravan presentation was aimed at generating support for Penn State athletics as well as selling season tickets for the football team.
After witnessing the presentation first-hand, I think it will prove to be effective.
