On Sunday evening, Penn State football picked up their fourth commitment in the past three days in the form of kicker Jake Pinegar

The 2018 Penn State football recruiting class now has 18 members. On Sunday, the class picked up its fourth commitment in the past three days. This time it came from kicker Jake Pinegar.

Over the weekend, Jake Pinegar visited Penn State for the Lasch Bash. After a strong visit, the Nittany Lions’ coaching staff extended an offer to Pinegar on Sunday. Pinegar immediately jumped on this offer and committed to the Nittany Lions.

Bringing in Jake Pinegar continues to show the commitment by James Franklin and his staff to having strong special teams units. In 2016 they signed punter Blake Gillikin, who went on to have a great freshman season this past fall, and kicker Alex Barbir.

Speaking of Barbir, the commitment of Jake Pinegar can not bode well for his future. If the Nittany Lion coaching staff had confidence in Barbir as the kicker of the future, they would not have offered a kicker in this class. It should be noted, though, that Barbir has had a lot of injury issues since arriving on campus which may have played a role here as well.

Pinegar carries highly-efficient numbers

According to Kohl’s Kicking, Jake Pinegar is the 13th best kicker in the country. He also holds scholarship offers from Bowling Green, Illinois, Indiana, and Northern Illinois. Piengar is a native on Ankeny, Iowa.

Kohl’s Kicking has this to say about Pinegar:

"“Pinegar recently attended the 2017 Midwest Spring Showcase. He is one of the best athletes in the 2018 class. He has explosive hips and fast leg. He charted well by making 9 field goals and also averaged 71.75 yards per kickoff. Having the ability to call on his “A” ball will need to be a focus this summer. His “A” ball on kickoffs, is in the top 5 nationally. Pinegar attended the 2016 Winter Showcase Camp in December. He charted very well going 8 out of 10 on field goals. He shows great control of his leg and with continued work on his leg strength he will do some special things as a specialist.”"

Jake Pinegar will not be the last commit of the next few days for the Nittany Lions. On Tuesday, 4-star safety Isheem Young is set to announce his commitment. It would be a complete shock if he chose anyone other than Penn State. Additionally, there are multiple players who appear to be on the verge of committing after the Lasch Bash.

As for Pinegar, you can watch his film here. Welcome to Happy Valley, Jake!
