Welcome back to the weekly look at all things Penn State Football recruiting here at Victory Bell Rings: the weekly recruiting roundup.

It is that time of the week again here at Victory Bell Rings, time to take a look at all of the latest news in the world of Penn State Football recruiting.

In the past week, things have been a little slow in the world of recruiting news. A big part of this is due to the start of a recruiting dead period earlier in the week. That said, before the dead period there was some news to discuss.

The Nittany Lions hosted a top defensive target, another defensive target set their commitment date, and a top wide receiver target is moving back to Pennsylvania for his senior campaign.

With all of that said, let’s begin.

A top defensive target visits campus

Last Wednesday, the Nittany Lions hosted one of their top defensive targets on campus. This player was defensive lineman Tyreke Smith.

The 4-star Cleveland native has a top group of Ohio State, Penn State, UCLA, and USC. While the in-state Buckeyes will be tough to beat, the school that appears to have the best chance to do so is Penn State.

This was Smith’s third visit to Penn State since the first of the year. The only school he has visited more during this time is Ohio State.

His recruitment will probably involve official visits, and the Nittany Lions will receive one of his official visits. As I said above, Ohio State will be difficult to beat here but if any school is going to do it Penn State will be that school.

Defensive back target sets commitment date

On Tuesday night, 4-star cornerback Jordan Miner announced that he will be committing on July 6th.

Shortly thereafter, a flurry of crystal ball predictions for Miner to Penn State occurred on 247 Sports. Miner visited Penn State on June 2nd and called it his best visit yet afterward.

Jordan Miner is a 6-foot-1, 177-pound native of Tampa, Florida. And now it appears the Sunshine State star is trending toward the Nittany Lions with his commitment date being just a week away. This is certainly a situation worth keeping an eye on in the coming days.

Tennessee is another school to watch with Miner. If Miner chooses the Nittany Lions, he will join Trent Gordon as the second cornerback in Penn State’s recruiting class. Jordan Miner could be the first of multiple commits for Penn State in the month of July.

A top wide receiver recruit on the move

4-star wide receiver Jahan Dotson could very well announce his college decision before the start of his senior season this fall. It appears that the Nittany Lions will be the team to beat for Dotson, who could commit at next month’s Lasch Bash.

Jahan Dotson played for The Peddie School in Highstown, New Jersey, last year. However, for his senior campaign, he will be returning to his original high school of Nazareth High School in Pennsylvania.

Dotson has had a top three of Michigan, Ohio State, and Penn State for quite a while now. Due to this, odds are, this move will not have an impact on his recruitment. However, Dotson being an in-state prospect once again certainly can’t hurt Penn State’s chances.
