Welcome back to the weekly look at all things Penn State football recruiting here at Victory Bell Rings, welcome back to the recruiting roundup.

It is that time of the week again, time for the Penn State football recruiting roundup.

In this week’s roundup, we look at a Nittany Lion commit who earned a great honor and one who shined on the camp circuit. Furthermore, there is a big recruiting weekend on tap in Happy Valley.

Penn State Commit Honored

Last week, defensive athlete commit Nick Tarburton earned a big honor. The Perkasie, PA, native was nominated to play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl in January.

This is a great honor for any high school football player. The Army All-American Bowl is one of the premiere high school football all-star games in the country. While Tarburton has not yet been named to the game, being nominated is the first step.

Tarburton plays linebacker in high school but will play either defensive end or defensive tackle at Penn State. Running back commit Ricky Slade and wide receiver commit Justin Shorter have already been named to the Army All-American Game.

Linebacker Commit Shines In Columbus

Last weekend, three-star linebacker commit Jesse Luketa competed at the Rivals camp in Columbus. At the camp, Luketa had a great showing and was named the linebacker MVP of the event. This was, obviously, a great honor for the Nittany Lion commit.

Luketa earning this award comes as no surprise. He is an athletic, physical, and instinctive linebacker. He has got all of the tools needed to be a great MIKE linebacker at the collegiate level in Brent Pry’s defense.

After his performance Rivals called Luketa a ‘punishing inside linebacker.’ Rivals added, “Some of Luketa’s opponents in the cat-and-mouse drill were sent stumbling backwards after a seemingly light touch. Luketa’s long speed was tested during the one-on-one session, but his instincts really helped him get the jump on some passes.”

Jesse Luketa is going to be a good one for the Nittany Lions.

Visitor Weekend On Tap

Penn State will host more than a handful of visitors this weekend. However, two players to keep an eye on are defensive linemen Jayson Oweh and PJ Mustipher. Right now, the Nittany Lions might be the team to beat for both Oweh and Mustipher.

For Oweh, this is his second visit to Penn State this spring. However, it is his first since the Nittany Lions extended a scholarship offer to the Jersey native in late April. Since then, Ohio State and Notre Dame have offered as well.

As for Mustipher, he is arguably the top defensive tackle on Penn State’s board for this cycle. He last visited Penn State on April 8 and may announce his college decision soon. Notre Dame, Ohio State, and Tennessee are in a good spot for Mustipher as well. However, with a good visit this weekend the Nittany Lions could solidify themselves as the team to beat for the 4-star defensive tackle.
