Penn State football placed No. 2 in multiple recruiting rankings for the 2018 class. The Nittany Lions’ have hauled in some strong recruits so far.

James Franklin flipped the Penn State football program on its head with a breakout 2016 season. The results of an 11-3 year and a Big Ten title yielded the Nittany Lions some impressive 2018 recruits.

Although the program struggled in Franklin’s first two seasons, the strong 2016 campaign earned Penn State five four-star recruits and two five-star recruits. Two hard commits in Justin Fields and Ricky Slade headline the class. Fields sits atop the national dual-threat quarterback rankings, while Slade leads the all-purpose back rankings.

USA Today High School Sports released a list containing the four major recruiting rankings today (Courtesy USA Today). Penn State football ranked second on two separate sites and ultimately averaged out to third in USA Today’s ranking.

The 2017 class ranked No. 15 on 247Sports. The only way to explain a jump that high comes from the Nittany Lions’ recent success.

Furthermore, Penn State’s offensive philosophy likely factored into their top two recruits decision to commit.

Offensive coordinator Joe Moorehead put together an exciting offense that any player would love to be a part of. It’s a fun offense to operate. It gives equal touches to receivers, running backs and allows the quarterback to be an integral part of the run game.
