Penn State’s Blue White weekend is off to a bang

One day after Chris Bleich and Penn State mutually parted ways, the Nittany Lions replaced him in a big way in their 2018 recruiting class. Four-star offensive tackle Nana Asiedu became the first commit of the 2018 Blue White weekend on Saturday morning.

At six-foot-six and 270 pounds, Asiedu is well on his way to having the ideal size of a dominant left tackle. Asiedu is one of the best offensive tackles in the country, checking in as the 82nd best overall player and 9th best offensive tackle according to the composite rankings of 247 Sports. He chose the Nittany Lions over Clemson, Florida, Florida State, and Georgia, among others.

Nana Asiedu is a North Stafford, Virginia, native. Joining five-star running back Ricky Slade as highly touted Virginians in the Nittany Lions’ 2018 recruiting class.

He is a long, athletic player at the tackle position. Asiedu is very explosive out of his stance and delivers a great first punch to defenders. His athleticism also helps him get to the second level with his blocks to help extend plays.

Asiedu also has great technique. He keeps his pad level low, gets below defenders, and drives them into the ground. He possesses a never stopping motor as well. He is an absolutely dominant run blocker.

One area he still needs to work on improving is his pass protection skills. However, that is not uncommon for high school offensive tackles. This is due to most high school offense revolving around the run game.

Landing Nana Asiedu is one of the best recruiting jobs James Franklin and company have done since arriving in State College. Prior to visiting Penn State for junior day in February, Asiedu appeared to be a Clemson lock. However, after that visit, he named Penn State his new leaders and now he is a Nittany Lion.

The commitment of Nana Asiedu gives the Nittany Lions 12 commits in their 2018 recruiting class. Their class currently ranks as the second best in the country behind just the Miami Hurricanes. Asiedu is the lone offensive line commit in this class, but I look for that to change soon. Possibly even before the end of the weekend.

You can watch his film here. Welcome to Happy Valley, Nana!
