Things are getting very busy in the world of Penn State football recruiting, and there could be good news on the way.

Welcome back to our weekly look at all things Penn State football recruiting, welcome back to the Penn State Football recruiting roundup.

After a dull period in early March, things are picking up once again for Penn State football recruiting. With the start of spring practice, the Nittany Lion coaching staff has been hosting many visitors on campus. These visitors have included both committing recruits and uncommitted recruits.

Additionally, the Nittany Lions could be getting some very good news on the recruiting trail today. With all of that said, let’s get started.

Trent Gordon Set To Announce Today

Three-star Manvel (TX) cornerback Trent Gordon is set to announce his commitment later today.

Gordon visited Penn State on March 15. Following the visit, the Nittany Lions appeared to become the team to beat for Gordon and they appear to be the favorites to land a verbal commitment from him later today. Keep your eyes peeled folks for the Bat Symbol Wednesday from Coach Franklin on Twitter.

Class Of 2018 Commits Check Out Campus

More from Victory Bell Rings

This past weekend Penn State hosted a trio of commits from their highly touted 2018 recruiting class. These three commits were linebacker Charlie Katshir, offensive lineman Chris Bleich, and tight end Zack Kuntz.

Katshir and Kuntz have been regulars at Penn State this offseason. However, this was Bleich’s first visit to campus since November. Since then he has visited a handful of other schools and his commitment has been far from solid.

Getting a commit who appears to be wavering in their commitment back on campus is always a great thing. Hopefully, this visit helped to solidify Bleich’s commitment. That said, I would not exactly be upset over the Nittany Lions losing Bleich.

A Defensive Tackle Target Returns To Campus

Last Thursday and Friday, defensive tackle target Aeneas Hawkins took a two-day visit to Penn State. The four-star Ohio native has made multiple visits to Penn State in the past calendar year and is a big priority for James Franklin and company.

Hawkins had originally planned to announce his commitment on May 10, but he Tweeted earlier this week that this is no longer the case. While Hawkins himself is an Ohio native, he has family ties to Pennsylvania. His dad, ex-NFL player Artrell Hawkins, is a Pennsylvania native.

This appears to be a two-horse race between Ohio State and Penn State. The Buckeyes will be tough to beat, but the Nittany Lions certainly have much more than just a puncher’s chance to do so.

A New Offer Extended

Over the weekend, the Nittany Lions extended a scholarship offer to a class of 2018 recruit that was visiting campus. This recruit is Belle Vernon offensive lineman Blake Zubovic.

By extending a scholarship offer, the Nittany Lions put themselves firmly in the mix for the three-star offensive lineman. While it is no guarantee, it would not be surprising if the Nittany Lions are now the team to beat.

This is shaping up to be an in-state battle between the Nittany Lions and Pitt Panthers.

Class Of 2019 Recruiting Visit Campus

The Nittany Lions also hosted a talented trio of class of 2019 recruits on campus over the weekend. These recruits were offensive linemen Caedan Wallace and Will Putnam, as well as defensive end Brandon Smith.

This was Wallace’s second visit to campus this spring and the Nittany Lions are in very good shape here. As for Putnam, he is one of the top offensive line recruits in the country for the class of 2019 and the Nittany Lions have definitely piqued his interest.

Brandon Smith is a native of Mineral, Virginia, and this was his first visit to Penn State. He does not yet hold an offer from the Nittany Lions. His lone FBS offer is Virginia, however, the programs he is generating interest from include Clemson, Penn State, and Maryland.
