Penn State head coach James Franklin has garnered a lot of excitement and attention for the program, particularly on the recruiting trail. The class of 2015 will be Franklin’s first full class as the head man of the Nittany Lions. The class has already been talked about as being one of the best in the nation. That was confirmed on Tuesday when Rivals.com released its updated Rivals250 list for 2015.
10 Nittany Lions found themselves on the updated list.
The highest-rated Nittany Lion commit on the list is 4-star quarterback Brandon Wimbush, who checks in at No. 68. He’s considered one of the top quarterbacks in the class and received offers from the likes of Alabama, LSU and Ohio State. Wimbush is the only Nittany Lion in the top 100.
Wimbush committed about an hour after the Nittany Lions received a commitment from 4-star offensive tackle Sterling Jenkins. Jenkins is ranked No. 163 by Rivals.
Penn State’s most recent verbal commitment came from Philadelphia cornerback John Reid, who’s currently ranked No. 101 on the Rivals list and is the next-highest rated Nittany Lion.
Running back Saquon Barkley made the biggest move in the rankings of all the Penn State recruits. He performed well at The Opening this year, standing out as a highly-talented running back prospect. That performance moved him 48 spots to No. 117. Barkley’s skills that he showed as a pass-catcher likely played a role in his big jump in the rankings.
The other Penn State verbal commitments ranked in the top-250 are as follows: defensive tackle Adam McLean (118), wide receiver Juwan Johnson (140), defensive end Ryan Bucholz (197), guard Steven Gonzalez (204), offensive tackle Ryan Bates (227), and wide receiver Irvin Charles (242).
To date, Franklin has picked up 19 verbal commitments for 2015. Rivals currently has the Nittany Lions ranked as the No. 6 recruiting class in the nation.
