Penn State Basketball: Nittany Lions Land 4-star Commit Joe Hampton

Penn State picked up their first commitment in the Class of 2016 last week when shooting forward Joe Hampton gave his verbal pledge to Coach Chambers and his staff.

Hampton is currently rated a 4-star prospect by Rivals.com and is ranked as their No. 60 prospect overall.

The 6-foot-7, 225-pound prospect from Hayattsville, Maryland played last season for DeMatha Catholic, but recently announced he was transferring to national power Oak Hill Academy for his junior and senior seasons.

Hampton is the third commitment out of Penn State’s last four to be rated within Rivals Top 150. He will join Class of 2015 commits and Top 150 prospects Josh Reaves and Mike Watkins. However, Hampton and Reaves will have the opportunity to play together this season as Reaves also recently announced he was attending Oak Hill Academy this fall.

Hampton is a strong post player who can score from the block out to 15 or 18 feet. The left handed prospect also has the ability to knock down the open 3 and has the ability to shot fake and drive the lane. He’s finishes through contact and does a great job of drawing fouls.

Check out his highlights below:

*Note – Hampton wears #25 and scored 20 points and recorded 21 rebounds during this game
