Shane Simmons pledged his commitment to Coach James Franklin and the Penn State Nittany Lions today as he made his college announcement live on

Rated a 4-star prospect by, Simmons is currently the number two strong-side defensive end in the country and the number one prospect in the state of Maryland.

The standout junior will star on a DeMatha Catholic team that will look to defend their Washington Catholic Athletic Conference Championship from a year ago. Measuring in at 6-foot-4 and 221-pound, Simmons is a force to be reckon with on the defensive line.

Simmons has great size and build for a player his age. He’s got long arms and can get up the field quickly. He’s got great speed off the edge as he loves to utilize the swim move and get to the quarterback in a hurry. He does a great job of recognizing the play and always stays true to his assignment where it’s containing the edge, attacking the rusher or rushing the quarterback.

The recruiting class of 2016 is off to a fast start as Simmons joins 4-star running back Miles Sanders, as the second commitment in the Class of 2016. Simmons already has the power and speed to play at the next level. Whether it’ll be at the defensive end position or at outside linebacker, time will certainly tell. One thing is certain though is that you can expect Simmons to garner major national attention as the Class of 2016 recruiting cycle begins to pick up.

Take a minute and treat yourself to Simmons’ highlights from a year ago, Penn State fans will certainly not be disappointed.
