In the middle of all of the NFL Draft news and watching former Nittany Lions land with NFL teams, Penn State landed another commitment for the 2015 class. 3-star safety Ayron Monroe gave his verbal commitment on Saturday afternoon. Monroe took to Twitter to make his decision known.
From Waschinton, DC, he was predicted by many to stay close to home and attend the University of Maryland like his brother who currently plays for the Terps. However, it’s been a trend recently for recruits from the Maryland area have been choosing to attend Penn State. He is now the 16th member of Penn State’s 2015 recruiting class and the fifth from the Maryland/Virginia/DC region. Assistant coaches Charles Huff and Bob Shoop were instrumental in his recruitment.
Monroe recently tweeted out an impressive list of his offers. Some of the schools that were interested in him are: Maryland, Iowa, Virginia, Wake Forest, Auburn and Nebraska. He received an offer from Penn State on February 15 while attending Junior Day. After that, he made two other visits to Happy Valley, including being on the field April 12 for the annual Blue-White Game.
He’ll now join a Nittany Lion class that’s ranked as one of the best in the nation.
