Penn State Football: BTN Analyst Gerry DiNardo Impressed With Nittany Lions at Practice

Saturday marked Penn State’s fourth practice of the spring under new head coach James Franklin. It was a big day in Happy Valley, as several prospects from the next three classes were in attendance at the practice. Also in attendance was the Big Ten Network, doing its annual spring tour. Analyst Gerry DiNardo had high praise for what he saw and took to Twitter to share his thoughts.

According to DiNardo, there was a large crowd watching the Nittany Lions in action.

The new leadership at Penn State has already done a great job in building excitement around the program and making it an attractive place for top talent to come, despite being under NCAA sanctions. Franklin has already started to implement a culture of success and positive energy that has many around the Nittany Lions looking forward to the future.

DiNardo, who was very busy on social media regarding his thoughts on the practice, felt that the day was a success.

When talking about specific players, DiNardo said he was particularly impressed with linebacker Gary Wooten, defensive tackle Antoine White and wide receiver DeAndre Thompkins. White and Thompkins are true freshmen whom DiNardo feels will play during the 2014 season.

DiNardo attended spring practice last season and therefore was able to make comparisons. He noted that the linebackers, tight ends, running backs and backup safeties are all better now than they were at this time a year ago.

Perhaps the most interesting of his many tweets about the Nittany Lions on Saturday was this one, suggesting that a decision on lifting the bowl ban could be coming within the next few months.

Of course, these opinions are just from one person, but DiNardo has coached in college football and studies each Big Ten team as part of his job as an analyst. Fans can make their own judgements when they get their first look at the Nittany Lions on April 12 during the annual Blue-White Game.
