Penn State currently has a stockpile of talented running backs in Akeel Lynch, Zach Zwinak and Bill Belton. However, the Nittany Lions need to secure future success at the position and have started by grabbing two running backs in the 2014 recruiting class. One of those running backs in Jonathan Thomas, who sent his official letter to Penn State today.

The 3-star running back from St. John’s Prep in Massachusetts, gave his verbal commitment to the Nittany Lions back in October and never wavered, even after the coaching change. He visited Happy Valley in both November and December, and went once again in January to meet with new head coach James Franklin and his staff.
He had originally committed to Maryland back in May of 2013, but withdrew his choice to attend Maryland on the same that he announced he would be heading to Penn State. Thomas chose the Nittany Lions over Boston College, Connecticut and Arkansas.
Thomas is a 3-star recruit according to Lions247 and is ranked as the 26th-best running back prospect. During his junior year in high school, he rushed for 1,794 yards and 15 touchdowns.
