In somewhat of a surprising development this week, Penn State picked up a late commitment on Monday night from 3-star defensive back Christian Campbell from Alabama. The Nittany Lions were not on his radar but suddenly became his top choice. He sent out on Twitter that even though it wasn’t reported, head coach James Franklin had been talking to him for a while.
Just to let y’all know , Coach Franklin been recruiting me before Minnesota and Indiana , know your facts

He made his choice official today by faxing in his letter of intent.

Campbell, a 3-star safety is the sixth player in the 2014 class that could play in the defensive backfield. Five recruits are listed as defensive backs and Koa Farmer is listed as a linebacker/safety. At six-foot-one, 181 pounds, Campbell already has decent size for a defensive back. The secondary, a weak area for the Nittany Lions in 2013, is quickly shaping up to be one that includes a lot of depth moving forward.
