4-star athlete Koa Farmer is a perfect example of the recruiting magic that new head coach James Franklin can bring to Penn State. Farmer likely didn’t even have Penn State on his radar, until Franklin took over. The California native was planning to stay on the West Coast, but took a visit to Happy Valley last week after receiving a visit from new defensive coordinator Bob Shoop. Farmer was familiar with both Shoop and Franklin after being recruited by them at Vanderbilt.
After giving a verbal commitment to the Nittany Lions last week, Farmer made his choice of Penn State official today by signing his national letter of intent. He showed his excitement via Twitter.
OFFICIALLY A NITTANY LION #WEARE

Farmer, listed as a 4-star athlete, had previously committed to the University of California. He is a very talented recruit and is a great signing for the Nittany Lions. He’s a versatile player who could line up at safety or linebacker, both of which are areas of need for Penn State.
With depth issues at both linebacker and in the defensive backfield, Farmer has an opportunity to step in and make an impact right away.
