Penn State’s 2014 recruiting class continues to grow with just a few days left until National Signing Day. The latest addition to the class is defensive back Amani Oruwariye from Tampa Bay. That now gives the Nittany Lions 24 recruits for 2014. Ironically, he was the topic of VBR’s recruiting wish list on Thursday.

Oruwariye is a 3-star recruit who was previously committed to Vanderbilt. He is the sixth former Vanderbilt commit to flip to Penn State after James Franklin was named the new head coach of the Nittany Lions. Lloyd Tubman, Chance Sorrell, Brndan Brosnan, Trace McSorley and Koa Farmer all followed Franklin to Happy Valley.
The secondary was an area of concern for the Nittany Lions heading into 2013, and those concerns materialized as Penn State really struggled at times to stop the passing game of its opponents. With upperclassmen slated to be starters in 2014, there will be a lot of turnover over the next few seasons.
However, Penn State should start to gain depth in the defensive backfield, as there are now four listed defensive backs in the newest class, five if Farmer, who’s listed as a safety/linebacker, is counted.
Recruiting news will be coming in fast over the next few days, be sure to check with VBR for the latest news.
