Before heading to State College to be publicly introduced as the next head coach of the Nittany Lions, James Franklin has to attend to some business with the team he’s spent he last three years coaching. Franklin will say goodbye to his players at Vanderbilt Saturday morning before officially becoming head coach at Penn State. According to several media sources, the meeting is set for 8:00 a.m. on the Vanderbilt campus. Franklin is expected to address coaches and players.

It is expected that Franklin will then head to Penn State later in the day. A media memo sent out by the Penn State athletics communication department on Friday afternoon stated that a press conference has been scheduled at Beaver Stadium for 4:15 p.m. on Saturday. The purpose of the conference is for AD David Joyner and University President Rodney Erickson to make a major announcement. It’s not too hard to figure out what that announcement will be.
The compensation committee, part of the Penn State Board of Trustees has scheduled a teleconference at 8:30 a.m. Saturday morning to discuss and approve the contract of the new coach. The contract is rumored to be worth around $4.5 million a year.
Franklin will need to get to work right away once the announcement is made. He’ll need to establish a coaching staff and prepare to finalize recruiting with National Signing Day coming up in less than a month.
More information on the hiring of James Franklin will come on Saturday. VBR will be covering the press conference live and bringing you the latest information.
