James Franklin - Next Coach Up?

In the latest developments in the head coaching search at Penn State, CBS sports Bruce Feldman has reported that Vanderbilt’s James Franklin, 41,  “has emerged as the clear frontrunner for the vacancy at Penn State.”

Feldman went on to say this about Franklin:

Earlier in the morning, some of Penn State’s rabid fan base also noted that Vanderbilt’s offensive coordinator John Donovan and the defensive coordinator, Bob Shoop, began following some of Penn State’s recruits on Twitter.  Some have suggested the recent “follows” could be due to them trying to poach some of PSU’s crop of 2014 recruits when the NCAA’s “dead period” ends, but, of the follows, Antoine White and De’Andre Thompkins were followed and they are expected to enroll early at Penn State.

Per  Tom VanHaaren, a Big Ten Recruiting reporter for ESPN.com, he spoke with a Penn State commit who told him that the Vandy coaches decided to follow them on twitter “in case” James Franklin takes the head coaching job.

Franklin has ties to the Pennsylvania area as he is a native of Neshaminy (Bucks County), and he played his college football at East Stroudsburg before commencing his coaching career at Kutztown in 1995.

In other Penn State coaching search news, former Tennessee Titans head coach and PSU alum, who interviewed for the Penn State vacancy on Sunday, is reportedly expected to interview for the head coach opening for the NFL’s Detroit Lions this Friday.
