In the ever-changing world of coaching rumors, the information surrounding the future of Penn State head coach Bill O’Brien has taken another turn. According to Luke Stampini of 247sports , he spoke to top defensive tackle recruit Thomas Holley on Saturday evening. According to the report, Holley spoke to O’Brien on the phone and the coach assured him the rumors are not true.
A report earlier today stated that Holley would contemplate changing his decision to attend Penn Sate in the fall if O’Brien were to leave for a job in the NFL. That report followed news that O’Brien and the Houston Texans were close to reaching a deal on a contract that would lure the coach away from Penn State.
It’s no secret that O’Brien is a top candidate among front office heads in the NFL. His mix of college and professional experience, paired with his personality and ability to groom quarterbacks makes him a highly sought-after coach.
The way it’s been going, this situation is bound to change again. Until there is an official statement from O’Brien, Penn State or Houston, anything is possible and everything is pure speculation.
