Penn State Football: Matt McGloin to Make First NFL Start with the Oakland Raiders

Two years ago, Matt McGloin was in a battle with Rob Bolden (who is now buried somewhere in the LSU depth chart) for the Nittany Lions’ starting QB job.  A year ago, he was the most improved quarterback in college football, en route to a record setting season.  Today, he will be starting at quarterback for the Oakland Raiders in their road match up with the Houston Texans.

Bill O’Brien was asked about the path his star pupil has taken to one of the 32 greatest jobs in pro sports

What can you say about Matt McGloin? Having been in that league I know that it takes a smart guy, it takes a competitive guy, it takes a guy that does the same thing every day, he works at it, he’s in the office early, he leaves late and that’s what Matt is. Everything Matt gets he deserves because he works for it and it’s going to be fun to watch him.

If that’s not enough, former PSU center Stefen Wisniewski will be the one snapping the ball to McGloin today as well.

Not bad for a kid that no one game much of a thought to when he came to Penn State as a preferred walk on.

Good luck, Matt!
