Fix the Run Game
The Nittany Lions have been running the ball effectively this season behind the three-pronged attack of Zach Zwinak, Bill Belton and Akeel Lynch. In their fourth game of the season against Kent State, the Nittany Lions rushed for 287 yards, led by 123 by Lynch and 90 by Belton. However, in the two games since then, Penn State has really struggled to get anything going on the ground.
On the road at Indiana, Penn State managed just 70 total team rushing yards. Last week against Michigan, things weren’t much better, as the Nittany Lions managed just 85 total yards on the ground.
Penn State is playing with a true freshman quarterback in Christian Hackenberg, and while he’s having a solid first season, establishing a run game will take some pressure off the youngster.
The Nittany Lions need to figure out a way to once again get the ball moving with effectiveness on the ground, especially if they plan to have any success on the road in a tough environment at Ohio State.
