Last week I improved to 5-1, but UCF was unable to make my upset special a reality. I also predicted USC to lose, which was a simple pick, but the aftermath of Lane Kiffin being fired put the cherry on the sundae of a great bye week.
This week doesn’t have many great games, but a few surprise teams have a chance to make statements. I’m guessing they won’t make these statements, but here are the picks.
Maryland (+16) at Florida State
Maryland has been on a little roll and finds themselves ranked vs. Florida State. They are only ranked 25th and this will be a short lived ranking as FSU will steamroll the Terps. Randy Edsall takes the loss as he looks in his rearview mirror to see the rubble he left in Storrs, CT.
Florida State 48 Maryland 18
Washington (+7) at Stanford
After Kiffin was fired in the still of the night, two names were just thrown out by the media and they face each other this year. Here’s hoping neither take this job if they even are offered it. Make USC suffer for ever making that hire. As for this game, Washington is good, but I don’t think they call pull this one off on the road.
Stanford 29 Washington 23
Illinois (+10) at Nebraska
Nebraska’s defense is porous and Illinois offense is improved now that they don’t take any of Beckman’s advice. Illinois could make a big statement here on the road vs. Nebraska, but they won’t because their coach is an imbecile.
Nebraska 41 Illinois 32
Arkansas (+11) at Florida
Well, since I am in the mood of picking against dumb coaches, I will pick the Arkansas game. Bert Bielema won’t be able to move the ball vs. Florida and he will get another loss. I am not sure he realizes that 3rd place teams don’t always get into championship games, but he will soon find out.
Florida 22 Arkansas 9
Ohio State (-7) at Northwestern
All of the Northwestern grads in the media are super pumped for this one. This could be their biggest win since they beat Penn State on their way to the Rose Bowl. NW will jump out quick, but OSU will just be too much and Northwestern will watch another lead dwindle to a loss.
Ohio State 35 Northwestern 30
LSU (-10) at Mississippi State
There is simply no logic behind this pick. Dan Mullen is 0-8 vs. top 10 opponents and all signs point to this game making him 0-11. Mullen has also lost 11 straight vs. ranked opponents. Let’s just say that he’s due.
Mississippi State 30 LSU 27
