Bill O'Brien Postgame Press Conference: Coach Shows Comical Side While Referencing "Fighters" Comment

Watching your team win 34-0 despite terrible weather conditions would put anyone in a great mood. Penn State head coach Bill O’Brien was certainly cheerful in his postgame press conference after watching his Nittany Lions totally dominate the Kent State Golden Flashes in the middle of a heave rain storm.

O’Brien was in such a good mood that he didn’t mind when someone referenced his “fighters” comment from last year. O’Brien famously made the comment, that could be taken another way, in front of a national television audience last year following an emotional victory over Wisconsin in the season finale. In case you have forgotten that moment, you can refresh yourself below.

Following the Kent State game, O’Brien was asked about this current team being fighters. “We do, we have a bunch of fighters.” He made sure to slowly enunciate the word fighters. Following some chuckles from the room, he continued to reference the incident. “Like my mom, she still doesn’t believe I said fighters. Do I look like the kind of guy that swears?”

No, not at all coach.

This lighthearted moment during a postgame interview shows what type of person O’Brien is and how comfortable he is being the leader of the Nittany Lions. Of course, this moment probably would not have come if the outcome of the game had been different. However, the team played so well and the mood in the room was light. It was a perfect time to bring up the funny moment from a year ago.

The video of O’Brien’s comment is now a permanent fixture on the Internet and people can hear what they want. However, as good of a job as O’Brien has already done at Penn State, he’s allowed to make us all think whatever he want us to.
