Week 2 was a disaster. I still went 4-2, but UNLV, my upset special was crushed, but that was small potatoes to me picking Illinois to get crushed by Cincinnati. I was going to pick USC to lose, but didn’t want to waste that easy Upset Special. What a mistake and that was the silver lining on an otherwise mediocre day. Illinois somehow blew them out which means they must have been cheating. It also means that Tommy Tubberville went to Cincy to collect a paycheck and barely coach. It’s almost like a semi-retirement for him. I am devastated, but this may mean that Beckman stays longer than first believed and the embarrassment that he is can be on display longer.
Off to week 3:
Wisconsin (+6 ) at Arizona State
Todd Graham has set a personal mark in self loyalty by being at a program for longer than 45 minutes. No B1G team has ever won at Arizona State. Arizona State will jump out to a big lead and Graham will go visit family at the half since has family everywhere. Wisconsin will make it close, but it will be too little too late.
Arizona State 30 Wisconsin 24
UCLA (+4) at Nebraska
The self proclaimed Linebacker U heads to the great Midwest for an interesting non-conference game. UCLA is coming of an emotional week after the tragic death of Freshman, Nick Pasquale and they head to a hostile environment. Pelini will make some head scratching moves and Nebraska will prevail with a bigger non-conference win for the B1G.
Nebraska 23 UCLA 17
Illinois (+10) at Washington
Fool me once, shame on you, fool me twice and I start to question life. Illinois beat up on Cincinnati, who was grossly overrated for beating Purdue. Now they head to Washington where the smoke and mirrors show ends. Back to reality Becks.
Washington 65 Illinois 32
Ole Miss (NL) vs. Texas
Mack Brown has been basically written off already. After the Texas D giving up 7,203 yards rushing, you can’t blame anyone for questioning the Texas program. This game is on the Longhorn Network, which means that a high school game locally will be more accessible. GERG is back for Texas and despite his constant failures, Texas will find a way to win. I have a feeling I’ll be regretting this pick by halftime, but I am pulling for Mack to silence the critics.
Texas 32 Ole Miss 22
Texas A&M (+8.5) at Alabama
Alabama gets their rematch vs. the team that knocked them off their perch last year. Johnny Manziel is a matchup problem for any team. Many people are drooling to see Manziel get put in his place. While I think Bama will win, it will be because the A&M defense is pretty awful. A&M will score a fair share of points, but there is no way Saban is letting the silver spooned brat beat him twice.
Alabama 34 Texas A&M 20
Virginia Tech (-7) at East Carolina
After 20 long years, the Pirates ended their streak of losing by clinching an above .500 record. While that was the Pittsburgh Pirates, the East Carolina Pirates will draw some inspiration by knocking off VT. Mack Brown last week and now the media will start swarming around Beamer asking if its time.
East Carolina 24 Virginia Tech 23
YTD Record – 9-3 (0-2 Upset Special)
