Nearly 18 years after their final game in Rec Hall, the Penn State basketball team will return to their home of over 60 years for the December 14th matchup with Princeton.
Pat Chambers was on hand for today’s announcement, and had this to say:
I watched Penn State basketball in Rec Hall when I was younger, and it was electric. When I think of Rec Hall I think of passion, energy and tradition. We listened to our alums and fans and we wanted to bring that Rec Hall experience back.
Capacity for the game will officially be 6,300, with 4,200 seats going to the public, and 2,100 going to students. Season ticket holders will get first dibs on seats, with a presale in early September, before a general public sale later that month. The student tickets should go on sale in October, again, with student season ticket holders getting priority. Those seats are all reserved, with standing room tickets yet to be determined.
It may sound odd, but Penn State enjoyed quite the home court advantage in Rec Hall, with a 514-183 record, with the energetic crowds, led by the students standing on the floor. While it may only be 1 game, and a non-conference tilt at that, getting a glimpse of a raucous college basketball arena at Penn State will be great to see.
