Penn State Football-Allen Robinson Named To Biletnikoff Award Watch List

After being overlooked for the Maxwell Award watch list last week, the 2012 Big 10 wide receiver of the year Allen Robinson made his first appearance on an award watch list today.  The 2nd overall player in our top players countdown is officially a candidate for the 2013 Fred Biletnikoff Award as the nation’s top wide receiver.

It’s quite the trip for a player who arrived at Penn State known as “the guy that played with Rob Bolden”.  After playing sparingly as a true freshman (3 catches, 29 yards), Robinson of course burst on the scene last year with 77 receptions for 1,018 yards and 11 touchdowns.  Those 77 receptions shattered the previous season mark of 63, held by PSU’s only other Biletnikoff winner, Bobby Engram, as well as O.J. McDuffie.  11 touchdowns tied Engram’s 2nd best season total (Engram also holds the record with 13 TDs in the 1993 season), and 1,018 yards make him only the 2nd Nittany Lion ever to eclipse the 1,000 yard mark, joining who else, Bobby Engram, who went over 1,000 yards twice.

Robinson becomes the 7th Penn State player to appear as a candidate for post season honors, joining Zach Zwinak (Maxwell), Deion Barnes (Bednarik), John Urschel (Outland, Lombardi), Kyle Carter (Mackey), Glenn Carson (Butkus), and DaQuan Jones (Outland).  The Davey O’Brien Award (Quarterback), Doak Walker (Running Back), and Walter Camp (Best Player) will unveil their preseason lists later this week.
